Volunteer Opportunities at FIRE

FIRE is currently seeking volunteers for various tasks, including those listed below. If you can help us out, please e-mail us or contact our office to let us know!

Volunteer Descriptions

Title: Community Archiver
Time Commitment: About 4 hours per month.
Location: Currently, volunteers are primarily needed within the area served by FIRE. However, some volunteer tasks may be accomplished by anyone with an Internet connection.
Description: Help your community by ensuring that its local newspaper or radio stories are available online! In most cases, this involves actually going to your local newspaper and using one of its computers to archive stories, which usually only takes an average of 20 minutes or less per week.
Special Requirements: Basic computer and Internet skills. May involve driving to a local newspaper or radio station.

Title: Mailing Assistant
Time Commitment: About 3 hours once a month or two.
Location: FIRE office in Asheville, NC.
Description: Help FIRE inform area residents and/or journalists about services we provide. Involves sending flyers, press releases, etc. to FIRE's mailing list, which may include folding letters, stuffing envelopes affixing postage, and/or bringing mailings to the post office.
Special Requirements: Reliability. Some light physical effort involved.
