NICAR Net Tour
Journalists who wish to use the Internet to locate information and churn out terrific data-related stories will love the NICAR Net Tour. NICAR, the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting, has put together this collection of links as “A Strategy Guide with Starting Points.” Use the directory to skip to links about reliable government sources; finding experts; telephone directories; downloadable data on the 'Net; e-mail and Web address finders; searchable online databases; listserv and newsgroup postings; backgrounding businesses; search engines; public records on the Internet; the ‘Invisible Web’; tech and programming tips; and other collections of links for journalists.

Soros Justice Media Fellows Awards:
Seeking funds for an in-depth journalism project dealing with criminal justice? The Soros Justice Media Fellowship seeks dynamic journalists working in print, photography, radio, and documentary film and video to improve the quality and depth of media coverage of incarceration and criminal justice issues. Last week, the Association of Fundraising Professionals Western North Carolina unveiled its new website. The site offers various resources for nonprofit organizations, including a page of fundraising links. There is also information about networking and learning opportunities. —for example, the director of Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation is speaking at their meeting next month. FIRE’s Executive Director serves on this organization’s board as VP of Public Relations and helped create the new site.
