Link of the Week: April 8 - 14
The New McCarthyism
As we continue to learn how to combat terrorism on our own soil, fear and stress
remain high. Throughout history, it is times like these when world leaders have
most often asked for special powers. These powers are not always used wisely.
There can be a fine line (and sometimes not so fine a line) between seeking
out an unknown enemy and violating the very laws we are fighting for. Matthew
Rothschild of The Progressive shares some stories that remind us of the
need to protect against a New
McCarthyism. At the same site, there is also a McCarthyism
Watch. When Americans start getting arrested
for wearing Peace on Earth T-shirts, our civil rights are in
jeopardy.

Rolling
Thunder
FIRE is collaborating with other WNC nonprofit organizations, media, businesses
and individuals to bring the Rolling Thunder Democracy Tour (RTD2) to the region
on May 3, 2003. The Rolling Thunder Down-Home Democracy Tour reawakens
a great American tradition of asserting the power of regular people to fight
for their rights; throws in some enlightening education, soul-stirring music,
mouth-watering food and drink.... says the events local
website.
